President Barack Obama to appear on ABC

The five female hosts of “The View” will interview President Barack Obama this week in what ABC claims is the first ever appearance by a sitting US President on a daytime talk show. The segment will be recorded Wednesday to air Thursday.

It won’t be Barack Obama’s first appearance on The View, but the last time he was there – in March of 2008 – he was a US Senator from Illinois campaigning for the presidency.

“We are so pleased and honored that President Obama will be a guest on The View. The President last appeared on the program in March 2008 while he was still a Senator — and First Lady Michelle Obama was a featured guest co-host in June 2008. This shows that both the President and First Lady feel that our show is an influential and important source of information and news. I’m also going to appear on The View Thursday for the first time since my open heart surgery in May. I will return full-time in September,” said Barbara Walters, creator/executive producer and co-host of the program.

Walters will question the President along with Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd.

ABC said the interview will touch on topics including his administration’s accomplishments, jobs, the economy, the Gulf oil spill, and family life inside the White House.

RBR-TVBR observation: You go where the people are – and daytime talk shows are hot. It is sort of surprising that President Obama’s first daytime talk appearance wouldn’t be on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” although Oprah, an early supporter of his candidacy, did nab the President last year for a primetime special.
