A name that’s very familiar to Chicagoland media veterans and longtime radio industry professionals has resurfaced on the commercial side of the Windy City’s radio dial.

Marv Nyren, who once managed Emmis Communications‘ former Chicago stations, is returning to his old stomping grounds. Only, the stations once owned by Emmis are now owned by Cumulus Media.

In an announcement made Wednesday by the company, Nyren will serve as VP/Market Manager for Cumulus’ Chicago operations. The cluster is comprised of Alternative WKQX-FM “Q101,” Talk WLS-AM 890, Classic Hits WLS-FM 94.7, and Rock WLUP-FM 97.9 “The Loop.”

For 13 years, Nyren served as an Emmis RVP and Market Manager, working in markets such as Phoenix and Emmis’ home market of Indianapolis.

He joins the Cumulus stations from Chicago Public Media, where he was VP/Corporate Sponsorships for NPR Member Station WBEZ-FM 91.5.

Before that, Nyren was a RVP for iHeartMedia, overseeing 13 stations in Jacksonville and nearby Brunswick, Ga.

Nyren said, “As a Native Chicagoan, I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to be part of these legendary stations and strong team. Cumulus’ continued focus on improving its product, culture and revenue makes me very excited about the next chapter in my career.”
