That figure is more impressive when you learn that the station was not in a top 20 market, but in Arbitron market #159, Asheville, NC.

Thed Asheville Citizen-Times reports that WMIT-FM “106.9 the Light” raised $272,250 in an on-air fund raiser earlier this month. The money will be used by the relief agency Samaritan’s Purse, to help people in Haiti following January’s devastating earthquake. Each gift of $150 will provide a family of six with temporary shelter, clean water, a medical kit and emergency supplies, so the funds raised by the station will helf 1,815 Haitian families.

WMIT is owned by Blue Ridge Broadcasting and is a listener-supported ministry of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Franklin Graham is President and CEO of both the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse.
