With the holiday season fast approaching, Journal Broadcasting Group’s 94.9 MIXfm Tucson, in conjunction with presenting sponsor Tucson Electric Power and community partners Meridian Mayflower Moving Systems and Wells Fargo Bank, set out to help the community by donating to the Tucson Community Food Bank.

The community partners collected non-perishable food items as well as cash last Thursday (11/19) by having “Thanksgiving on the Mayflower,” a community-giving opportunity to fill an entire Mayflower moving truck with items to restock the Tucson Community Food Bank.

On final tally, more than $60,000 was raised along with more than 9,000 pounds of food for the Food Bank. Because the Tucson Community Food Bank can distribute $9 in food for every dollar donated, the total value of the one-day event was more than $1 million.

“What an amazing experience of the good in people and their open hearts and extreme generosity. In 14 hours they gave the equivalent of a million dollars to feed those truly in need!” said Bobby Rich, host of the Bobby Rich Morning MIX. “Our listeners were simply wonderful. I can’t put it into words, but greeting folks who came all the way over just to make their donation gave me a good community feeling. We have fabulous listeners. Thank you to everyone who donated.”
