Tony Kornheiser in hot water again

Less than a month after being suspended from ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption” for comments about a fellow host at the cable channel, Tony Kornheiser is under attack for some other comments made on his WTEM-AM Washington, DC local radio show. This time he’s being denounced by famed bicycle racer Lance Armstrong.

On his March 11th show Kornheiser was complaining about new bike lanes being painted on streets in DC. In his rant, he not only said that streets are for cars, not bikes, but also mocked the attire of bikers.

"They’re all, my God, with the little water bottle in the back and the stupid hats and their shiny shorts. They are the same disgusting poseurs that in the middle of a snowstorm come out with cross-country skiing on your block,” Kornheiser said, then adding “Run 'em down.”

While Armstrong wasn’t listening to the radio in Washington at the time, the audio was posted on the Internet and prompted him to deliver this Tweet to his 2.4 million Twitter followers:

“Listening to Tony Kornheiser's comments/rant on ESPN radio re: cyclists. Disgusting, ignorant, foolish. What a complete f-ing idiot.”

Kornheiser did later in the broadcast back down from suggesting that motorists should mow down bicycles. “So you tap them. I’m not saying kill them.”

This IS ignorance. And Kornheiser is the epitome of self-centered stupidity. It's all about HIS streets. The sad thing is the way these comments encourage other selfish morons to feel that their views of cyclists (joggers, skiers, etc.) are validated and acceptable. How would Kornheiser feel if some dim-wit took his advice and ran down one of Kornheiser's children when they were out on their bike?

I bet as a child Tony was one of the last kids picked for any team! He obviously has no clue and does not understand the consequences of his completely irresponsible, ignorant remarks. He doesn't deserve air time!

Tony joins Howard,Jimmy the Gk,and the other insensitives who fail to recognize there is no mercy for making comments about the weaker vessels regardless of their clothing or little water bottles.

As a biker before the discovery of anti-depressers and spandex I am already offended by this new bunch of peddlers with their drugs and attire. Tony its with great pain that I must say you're not going to make it without some more meds and your own exploratory journey to the alternative lifestyle of the narrower path of enlightenment on the very paths you, like me loathe.

O.K., I haven't heard the rant ... but I've watched Tony on PTI on ESPN for years and I'm pretty sure his tirade against cyclists was tongue in cheek and meant to be funny and outrageous.

Does anyone have a sense of humor anymore? Or have we entered an age where political correctness ruins everyone's fun? I know. Stupid question.

But can just lighten up a little?

I say mow 'em down, too. Or at least, graze them with your bumper if they encroach into the travel lanes. Stay fully in your bike lanes, you little turds!!

If he had said, tongue in cheek, that we should pull out guns and shoot an ethnic group of choice, would we let him off so easily? Why is it OK to substitute a car for a gun?

I guess I just don't have a sense of humor about jokes about killing people like me.

Well I can see why he was suspended, that was a pretty big rant. I understand his point of view, bikers can sometimes be in the way while driving, they sometimes scare me because I'm afraid of hitting them. But that still doesn't give Kornheiser the right to bash them. I think new biker lanes will sure help with safety, for both bikers and cars.
