George Crossley dead at 69

WEUS-AM Orlando evening talk host George Crossley collapsed at the studios Wednesday and died later at a nearby hospital. He was 69.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Crossley was long a controversial figure in Central Florida. He was convicted in 1997 of hiring a hit-man to kill the husband of his former lover. The murder-for-hire, by the way, was never carried out. 

Crossley was once an evangelical Christian preacher with radio and TV shows in Orlando and a conservative activist who campaigned to ban strip clubs, controversial art exhibits and sex education in public schools. But his views had changed when he was released from prison in 2001.

He became head of the American Civil Liberties Union's Central Florida chapter in 2005, but the newspaper said he was ousted because the board of directors came to view him as a loose cannon.

Most recently Crossley had co-hosted “The People Power Revolution” on WEUS 6-8 pm weekdays with John Hamilton.
