101.9 Radio Now launches in Memphis
Memphis has something new to brag about -- as of Noon 9/10 CT – Clear Channel’s KWNW-FM 101-9 Radio Now (out of Crawfordsville, AR) launched as a hit music station featuring the hottest songs from favorite artists like Lady Gaga, John Mayer and more. On the frequency was East Arkansas Broadcasters’ CHR KIYS-FM, “Kiss Jonesboro” (AR). That station will re-emerge on 9/11 on 101.7 mHz as KRLW-FM (previously on 106.3) moves to KRLW Walnut Ridge, AR to take that spot in Jonesboro (freeing the 101.9 frequency debut in Memphis).
“We have seen a general dissatisfaction with mainstream contemporary radio among young adults in Memphis,” said Jon Zellner, Senior Vice President of Programming for Clear Channel. “We have built a radio station custom-designed to reach those music fans who have been settling. Radio Now focuses on today’s music that’s reacting and selling all over Memphis."
“It’s always exciting to launch a new radio station, but especially satisfying to bring on a format so fresh and new,” said Clear Channel Market Manager Michael Oppenheimer. “Not to mention the use of new technology to reach young people such as Twitter, Facebook and our iHeartRadio app which brings Radio Now to listeners phones.” The app is available for Blackberry, Droid and iPhone.
The station’s website, http://www.radionowmemphis.com also launched at noon 9/10.
