FCC greenlights 50,000 watts for KRKO

Perseverance finally pays off for the Skotdal family, local operators of Everett-based KRKO-AM 1380, one of eight locally operated radio stations left in the Puget Sound basin.  The FCC issued a 50,000 watt CP allowing the Skotdals to complete the assembly of one of the most modern transmitter facilities on the West Coast.  “This is a significant milestone in the re-emergence of the City of Everett,” said President and General Manager, Andy Skotdal.  “Every major commercial broadcast station in the region abandoned their home cities and took their studios to Seattle years ago.  We’ve worked tirelessly to grow this local radio station in Everett.”

KRKO broadcasts a sports based format that includes local host Jeff “The Fish” Aaron in the afternoons, Everett Silvertips Hockey, Everett Aquasox Baseball, and Washington State University football and basketball in addition to ESPN’s Mike and Mike in the Morning, the World Series, and other programming from ESPN Radio.
