LPFM fails to block Sacramento move-in

Results Radio of Chico has won FCC permission to move KMJE-FM, a class A on 101.5 MHz, south from Gridley, CA to Woodland, in the Sacramento market. The move had been opposed by Davis Community Television, whose LPFM on 101.5, KDRT-LP Davis, CA, will be displaced by the move. A couple of other full-power stations also made minor changes to accommodate the move-in, but the fight before the FCC was over displacement of the LPFM, with Davis Community Television and some of its supporters arguing that the FCC’s FM allotment priority rules, which rank LPFMs as part of a secondary service, should be set-aside as “not in the public interest.” The FCC staff did not take that road, however, and approved the KMJE move, while at the same time granting KDRT a new CP on 95.7. The action signed by Peter Doyle, Chief of the Audio Division of the FCC’s Media Bureau, also applauded Results Radio of Chico for its cooperative efforts in providing Davis Community Television with financial and technical assistance to put together the mutually beneficial outcome.
