Shots fired at radio booth
Saturday’s Juneteenth Festival in Minneapolis was marred by shootings that injured three people, including one at a promotional booth for WCCO-AM. None of the injuries were reported to be serious. WCCO part-time employee Mike Kinghorn was hit in the ankle by what was believed to be a ricocheting bullet. WCCO reported that a woman from US Bank was hit in the adjacent booth. Those two victims were said to have been about 80 yards from the scene of a reported gang fight that erupted in gunfire.
Juneteenth commemorates the freeing of African-American slaves. It was on June 19, 1865 that Union troops arrived in Galveston, TX and declared enforcement in Texas of the Emancipation Proclamation, issued nearly three years earlier by President Abraham Lincoln.
