Nexstar's KSNF-TV debuts new facilities
Nexstar Broadcasting Group announced today the opening of its new, $5.5 million, state-of-the-art television broadcasting studio and offices in Joplin, MO. The all-digital facility is home to Nexstar’s KSNF-TV, the local NBC affiliate, and KODE-TV, the market’s ABC affiliate which Nexstar manages under a local service agreement with Mission Broadcasting. The stations have already transitioned to their two brand new side-by-side main sets and control rooms.

KSNF-TV’s 1,000-foot broadcast tower collapsed in May of 2009 as a result of extreme wind conditions of over 90 miles per hour. The tower landed on top of the station’s previous main building. As a result, KSNF-TV was off the air for some six weeks, eventually returning to broadcasting with borrowed equipment in shared space.
The new facility features an additional 10,000 square feet to the existing structure which was completely renovated. A new broadcast tower and a consolidated newsroom as well as JVC HD field acquisition gear for news and creative services with Avid non-linear editing, 2 Control Rooms, 2 Studios, 3 conference rooms, 8 News HD editing suites, 6 Creative Services HD editing suites, and a combined Master Control workflow fill out the rest of the facility.
Said Perry Sook, Nexstar CEO: “This facility represents a significant investment for Nexstar and reflects our commitment to our viewers in Joplin, Pittsburg, and the entire Four States Region. With this new facility we are bringing KSNF and KODE under one roof, which will further improve efficiencies and productivity as a result of enhanced workflow capabilities. The investment in the facility and in state-of-the-art technology underscores Nexstar’s commitment to producing leading local programming and news and serving the viewers in the markets where we operate.”
Nexstar is hosting an open house for sponsors and local businesses at the Joplin facility on Friday, July 16 and a community open house for the public with tours of the new facility on Saturday, July 17.
