WBEN celebrates music with local schools
In recognition of March being Music in Schools Month, Jacobs Music and Greater Media’s 95.7 BEN-FM (WBEN-FM Philadelphia) are partnering with area elementary schools to give students the opportunity to share their personal experiences on music education and the music teachers that have inspired them. Elementary students are encouraged to vote for their school and write about the impact music teachers have had on their lives. Students and parents may also register to win tickets to see Alicia Keys in concert as well as tickets to the Philadelphia Orchestra.
“Children who have taken music lessons traditionally perform better in traditional curriculum courses like math,” said Robert Rinaldi, SVP/Merchandising and Customer Service for Jacobs Music. “We are proud to offer this program to engage children’s creativity and to reward the teachers who offer so much in the way of music education.”
This campaign is meant to engage students, educators, and parents in the many benefits that music participation and education offer. “At a time when we hear so much about cuts in education and extracurricular activities, Jacobs Music has stepped up to give back to schools when they need it the most,” said Kelly Wortmann of 95.7 WBEN-FM, Jacobs Music’s partner in promoting Music in Schools Month.
Jacobs Music Company was founded by the Jacobs family in 1900, the same year the Philadelphia Orchestra came into existence.
RBR-TVBR observation: This is a bit similar to what Bonneville’s “The Sound” did in LA late last year with The GRAMMY Museum at L.A. LIVE Education Program and the Arts Advantage Program of the Orange County Department of Education, to benefit SoCal schools. Both are a great way to show your station cares about its community – and nothing resonates with listeners quite like caring about their kids.
