Arbitron releases May Philadelphia PPM data
Arbitron released two charts of the May Philadelphia PPM data. Arbitron provided the Philly station cumes for April and May, along with a bit more than the standard AQH Share ranker. With PPM, individual station cumes are larger for all stations, since every exposure to an encoded station is automatically recorded and reported.
They also provided the percent of a station's AQH rating (based on weekly sample) that P1 listeners represent and the Time Spent Exposed for each station's P1 listeners. P1 is often seen as a measure of loyalty or engagement. In the case of the Philadelphia May data, eight stations garner more than two-thirds of their AQH audience from P1 listeners with Contemporary Inspirational WPPZ-FM at the top of the ranker at 79%.
The new PPM metric that replaces TSL--Average Weekly Time Exposed-also says a lot about the loyalty and engagement of P1 listeners. In the data, Smooth Jazz WJJZ-FM and Urban AC WDAS-FM have a time spent exposed among their P1 listeners at 10 hours or greater. As has been reported, Urban and minority stations seem to get a bump with PPM over the diary ratings, as you'll see. But that's not across the board by any means.
