Randy Michaels, a longtime Sam Zell associate who is now Tribune’s EVP and CEO of Interactive and Broadcasting, said in a recent Chicago Tribune story that the Baltimore Sun, South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Orlando Sentinel, Hartford Courant, Morning Call in Allentown, PA and Daily Press of Newport News, VA, will serve as a lab of sorts for Internet experiments.
“"There are some pretty obvious and unexploited opportunities," Michaels said. "I think blurting it out in the paper is probably not the right competitive idea, but I will say this: It’s a little bit embarrassing that all media companies have made their Web sites and their Web efforts look too much like their traditional business."
