This batch of 13 PPMs registers an average Holiday listening share increase + 6.26% (without Riverside, CA).  Including the Riverside – 10.3% anomaly reduces the average to + 4.99%.

Recapping the Top 25 Holiday Nielsen PPM results, the average share gain is + 8.5 from start to finish November (October 9-November 4), December (November 6 – December 3) and Holiday (December 4 – 31) survey 6+ total persons. All but 6 of the significant winners so far are A/C with the remainder being Classic Hits (4) and Soft A/C (2). The highest shares: +18.1 KKCW, Portland on a +10.1 gain followed by WMJX, Boston growing to + 16.5 on the largest trend jump +10.8. Again, these are subscriber only total shares but trends for big holiday formats are obvious. All Markets (except – 0.6 Pittsburgh, and now Riverside – 10.3) are up with the leaders to this point + 16.4 Chicago, + 14.5 St. Louis and + 14.0 Philadelphia. But, wait! There’s more and stand by for a new record:

26. RIVERSIDE, CA. 6+ population 1,936,100. Ethnic composition: Spanish 48%, Black 9.5%. Station percentage of Nielsen subscribers 65%. An atypical Feliz Navidad with every one of the Top 10 stations losing shares! – 0.5 Entravision Spanish Adult KLYY holds 1st place (10.4-11.1-9.9), 2nd – 0.1 Anahiem Broadcasting Classic Hits KOLA (5.7-5.5-5.6), followed by – 0.6 Univision Romantica KLVE (4.6-4.2-4.0) and the loss leader is 4th place – 1.3 iHeart Rhythmic CHR KGGI (5.2-4.2-3.9). Top 10 total share trend: November 42.7, Holiday 38.7 for the new, largest listener share loss over the holiday period: – 10.3%. “And, that’s all I’ll say about that.” – Forrest Gump.

27. SACRAMENTO, CA. 1,866,100. Spanish 19%, Black 8%. Subscribers 68%. Closer to the Holiday Norm. + 2.3 CBS A/C KYMX (6.9-5.9-9.2) has a 140,000 cume lead over 4th share Entercom CHR KDND (5.6-6.1-6.0). Gains for 2nd place + 1.0 Entercom Classic Rock KSEG (7.8-8.7-8.8), + 0.8 Entercom Modern Rock KKDO (3.8-4.4-4.6) and + 0.7 CBS Rhythmic CHR KSFM (4.1-4.4-4.8). Moderate down trends for 3rd place – 0.7 iHeart News/Talk KFBK A/F (7.8-7.1-7.1), – 0.7 Entravision Country KNTY (3.0-2.9-2.3) and – 0.6 CBS Hot A/C KZZO (4.5-4.1-3.9). Top 10 shares: November 52.9, Holiday 56.9. Total listening shares + 8%.

28. SAN ANTONIO, TX. 1,818,600. Spanish 53%, Black 6.6%. Subscribers 63%. + 6.7 iHeart A/C KQXT-F (3.3-5.7-10.0) wins share and cume by 3.0 and 185,400 over 2nd place – 1.0 Cox Media Classic Hits KONO-F (8.0-7.3-7.0). Largest dips are – 1.3 iHeart Rhythmic CHR KZEP-F (5.1-4.1-3.8), – 1.2 Univision Regional Mexican KROM (4.8-3.5-3.6), – 0.8 Cox Rock KISS-F (3.5-2.9-2.7) and – 0.7 Cox Hot A/C KSMG (4.4-4.2-3.6). Fewer ups: + 1.1 Texas Public Classical KPAC (0.7-1.1-1.8), + 0.5 iHeart CHR KXXM (4.5-5.0-5.0) and + 0.3 Univision Tejano KXTN-F (4.3-4.4-4.6). Top 10: November 51.0, Holiday 55.2. Total listening + 7.6%.

29. CINCINATTI, OH. 1,760,000. Black 12.4%, Spanish 2%. Subscribers 63%. + 5.6 Cumulus A/C WRRM takes top honors (5.6-6.7-11.2) and #1 cume by 226,700 (13% of the market population) ahead of 6th place – 1.0 Hubbard Hot A/C WKRQ (6.9-6.7-5.9). The other Hubbard Hot A/C WREW is steady (4.1-4.4-4.1) and part of a 3-way tie with -1.1 iHeart CHR WKFS (5.2-4.2-4.1) and + 0.6 Radio One Urban WIZF (3.5-3.8-4.1). Just one other gain: + 0.3 Classic Rock WOFX-F (5.9-5.6-6.2). Many losses including: – 1.3 Hubbard Country WUBE-F (7.6-7.3-6.3), – 1.1 iHeart CHR WKFS (5.2-4.2-4.1), – 0.7 Cincinnati Public WVXU (3.1-2.8-2.4), – 0.7 other Hubbard Country WYGY (2.2-1.9-1.5), – 0.6 for both 2nd place iHeart Talk WLW (10.9-10.8-10.3) and Cumulus Country WNNF (2.6-2.4-2.0). Top 10 shares: November 60.7, Holiday 62.2, Listening + 3%.

30. CLEVELAND, OH. 1,758,800. Black 20%, Spanish 4%. Subs 58%. + 5.4 CBS A/C WDOK (5.7-7.8-11.1) has the Holiday spirit but not a big lead over – 0.4 iHeart Classic Hits WMJI (10.2-9.2-9.8). Largest loss: – 1.6 iHeart Rock WMMS (5.6-4.5-4.0), then – 1.0 iHeart Country WGAR-F (7.1-6.8-6.1) and – 0.8 iHeart Classic Hits WHLK (9.0-8.6-8.2). Decent gains: + 0.9 Radio One Urban A/C WZAK (6.4-6.1-7.3) and + 0.7 CBS Hot A/C WQAL (4.5-5.4-5.2). Top 10: November 65.5, Holiday 68.6, Listening + 4.5%.

31. SALT LAKE CITY, UT. 1,716,200. Spanish 14%, Black 1.4%. Subs 64%. + 11.4 RECORD JUMP on Bonneville / KSL Broadcast Soft A/C KSFI (6.5-10.4-17.9) for a huge 11.8 share lead over #2, – 1.2 Bonneville News/Talk KSL A/F (7.5-7.3-6.1) with a 448,000 cume lead (26% market population) ahead of 6th share – 1.5 KLO Broadcasting Hot A/C KBZN (6.5-5.7-5.0). Downs: – 1.9 iHeart Talk KNRS A/F (6.0-5.4-4.1), – 1.4 iHeart Hot A/C KJMY (4.5-4.0-3.1) and – 0.7 KSOP Country (4.6-4.2-3.9). Nice gain of + 2.5 KLO Broadcasting A/C KSQN (0.5-2.3-3.0) and small gain + 0.3 for iHeart Classic Rock KAAZ (2.3-2.4-2.6). Top 10 Shares: November 55.3, Holiday 59.5, Listening + 7%.

32. LAS VEGAS, NV. 1,682,100. Spanish 28%, Black 11%. Subs 62%. +3.9 win for iHeart A/C KSNE (7.4-9.3-13.2) for a 7.5 share lead over – 1.2 CBS Hot A/C KMXB (6.9-7.5-5.7) and a 14% market total cume lead of 236,000 ahead of 3rd place – 1.3 CBS Rhythmic CHR KLUC-F (6.6-6.4-5.3). Other drops: – 1.8 iHeart Country KWNR (4.9-3.6-3.1), – 1.4 Beasley Media Rhythmic Oldies KOAS (5.4-5.6-4.0), – 1.1 CBS News/Talk KXNT-A/F (3.6-2.7-2.5) and – 0.9 Beasley Country KCYE (3.6-3.5-2.7). A unique 1-2 punch for Cumulus: +1.2 Classic Rock KCFX has top share (6.9-8.0-8.1) and a slim 30,000 cume lead over + 3.6 Cumulus Classic Hits KCMO-F (3.9-4.8-7.5). Nice move for +2.0 Entercom Country WDAF-F (4.3-5.8-6.3) now running close behind – 0.3 Steel City Country KFKF-F (7.2-7.0-6.9). +1.1 is posted by the other Steel City Country KBEQ-F (3.9-4.3-5.0). A rough loss – 3.7 Entercom Sports KCSP (5.6-2.3-1.9) on baseball Royals residuals, – 2.1 University of NW St. Paul Christian KJNW (4.0-1.9-1.9) , – 0.9 Carter Broadcast Urban KPRS (6.4-6.0-5.5) and – 0.4 at both Steel City CHR KXMV and Entercom Hot A/C KZPT (5.3-5.0-4.9). Top 10: November 52.6, Holiday 58.7. Listening share increase + 10%.

34. ORLANDO, FL. 1,596,200. Spanish 28%, Black 16.5%. Nielsen Subscribers 59%. Substantial + 8.3 iHeart A/C WMGF 4.5-6.3-12.8) for a 4.2 share lead over 2nd place + 2.4 Central Florida Educational Christian WPOZ/WMWZ (6.2-5.7-8.6) with a 220,000 cume lead (13.8% of the market) over 7th place – 0.8 Cox Urban A/C WCFB (5.6-5.7-4.8). A fair number of losses: – 1.1 CBS Hot A/C WOMX-F 4.9-4.7-3.8, – 1.0 iHeart Talk WTKS-F (4.8-4.8-3.8), – 1.0 CBS Classic Hits WOCL (5.7-5.9-4.7), – 0.8 Cox Country WWKA 6.5-6.3-5.7), – 0.7 Cox Rhythmic CHR WPYO (5.5-4.8-4.8) and – 0.6 Cox Urban A/C WCFB (5.6-5.7-4.8). 35. COLUMBUS, OH. 1,523,900. Black 16%, Spanish 3%. Subs 45%. + 4.7 iHeart Classic Hits WODC (4.9-6.0-6.9) is #1 share but #2 cume is 52,400 behind 2nd place – 0.6 iHeart CHR WNIC (10.2-9.7-9.4). Leading downer: – 2.0 iHeart Country WCOL-F (10.4-9.8-8.4), – 1.2 iHeart Talk WTVN (5.5-5.1-4.3) and – 0.4 iHeart Modern Rock WBWR (1.7-1.9-1.3). All other losses & gains within +/- 0.2 with the exception of jumps by 4th place + 0.7 Christian Voice WCVO (4.7-4.1-5.4) and + 0.7 Wilks Broadcasting Classic Country WHOK (1.3-2.0-2.0). San Francisco shadow market has 2 holiday gainers: +2.2 Digity Media A/C KBAY (6.6-8.5-8.8) and + 2.5 Entercom A/C KOIT (3.3-3.9-6.4). + 0.6 Digity Hot A/C KEZR is 3rd (5.6-6.5-6.2) with the runner-up cume training KBAY by 9.7% of the market population, 51,900. + 1.0 Univision Spanish Adult KBRG (4.6-4.6-5.6) and + 0.5 Cumulus News KGO (2.2-2.8-2.7). Losses from baseball withdrawal at -4.3 Cumulus KNBR (7.1-2.8-2.8), then: – 0.9 News/Talk KQED (6.2-5.8-5.3), – 0.7 CBS Modern Rock KITS (2.1-1.7-1.4) and – 0.6 for each of Empire Country KTRY (3.5-3.1-2.9), Cumulus Classic Rock KSAN (2.6-2.4-2.0) and iHeart Classic Hits KOSF (1.7-1.5-1.1). Nielsen Subscribers, 77%. + 4.0 A/C Entercom (4.5-4.9-8.9), is 2 shares over – 1.0 Emmis Adult Hits KBPA (7.9-7.8-6.9) and a 82,600 cume ahead of 4th place + 0.2 iHeart CHR (5.4-4.9-5.6). 3rd place – 0.7 iHeart Country KVET-F (6.3-6.3-5.6), 5th place -1.1 iHeart other Country KASE-F (6.1-6.7-5.0). Also down: -1.4 Emmis Talk KLBJ (4.6-4.3-3.2), – 0.9 Christa Christian KFMK (4.9-3.9-4.0), – 0.8 Emmis Rock KLBJ-F (4.0-4.2-3.2), – 0.6 Emmis Regional Mexican (3.8-3.8-3.2).
