SBS launching “Aire Radio Networks”

SBS / Spanish Broadcasting SystemThe former major league pitcher for the Minnesota Twins takes another swing: Jack Hobbs, ‎Executive Vice President Corporate Sales at Spanish Broadcasting System, tells RBR-TVBR Aire Radio Networks, launching 1/1, is a multi-network delivery system catering to Youth and bi-lingual multicultural audiences “that we’re really seeing start to develop out there in the marketplace. With the strength of the SBS stations in NYC, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco and LA, we’ve really got the bookends.”


Hobbs mentioned El Mandril, #1 in LA in the general market (KLAX-FM), the Hispanic market in NYC with WSKQ and the additional member stations coming with Thalia. Elisa Torres, who came over from Cumulus, is bringing in stations and talent for the effort.

Says Hobbs: “We’ve got a very strong delivery system that rivals anything else out there right now. We’re trying to replicate what I built at Univision, making it as competitive as it can be from a ratings sense. The void that we see with Piolin leaving—the large loss of share that Univision has seen going into this upfront period–is what we’re trying to attack.”

The ad sales for the network are being done in-house this time around. In the past, Focus360’s Hispanic Radio Network and Cumulus (ends 12/31, not being renewed) had done the work.
