S&P 500, Dow close at record levels

Stocks ended Monday with modest gains with the benchmark S&P 500 and Dow Jones closing at record levels. In a day devoid of economic news, investors focused on deals, such as the announced purchase of Hillshire Brands by Tyson Foods. The S&P closed up 1.83 points, or 0.1%, to 1,951.27, hitting a record level for the 19th time this year. The rose 18.82 points, or 0.1%, to 16,943.10. The blue-chip index closed at a record level for the 9th time in 2014. The Nasdaq ended the day up 14.84 points, or 0.3%, at 4,336.24.


The RBR Radio Index was up 14.508, or 1.6%, to 902.399.

The TVBR Television Index was up 5.223, or .6%, to 878.468.
