Advertising Week hits New York City at the end of September, and with it comes an NBCU “Power of the Purse” breakfast with a theme – “Women In Power: Marketing To The Educated Consumer.” NBCU’s Lauren Zalaznick will host, and NBCU honcho Jeff Zucker will interview House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) at the event.

The breakfast is on the schedule for Tuesday, 9/28/10. Host Zalaznick is President of NBC Universal Women & Lifestyle Entertainment Networks. It’s part of an ongoing corporate program known as Women at NBCU.

According to NBCU, Pelosi was invited to attend because of “…her role as arguably the most powerful woman in America, as well as her perspective on the state of women today.”

Following the Zucker/Pelosi session, Paley Center President/CEO Pat Mitchell will host a panel of women including Founder and Editor-in Chief of The Daily Beast, Tina Brown; Donna Speciale, President of Investment and Activation at Media Vest USA; and Kim Brink, the Executive Director Advertising and Sales Promotion at Cadillac.

Zalaznick commented, “I am very excited to host such a powerful line-up at Women at NBCU’s upcoming event. Today’s woman plays numerous roles, from career-builder to mom to chief household officer. Speaker Pelosi is a prime example. I look forward to hearing her insights for marketers, as well as a dynamic panel discussion with experts from a diverse range of sectors.”

RBR-TVBR observation: In addition to giving Pelosi a chance to share her observations with other female executives, this session will provide Zucker with a chance to perhaps explain to a key member of Congress that the goal of the Comcast/NBCU merger is simply to share resources and improve their competitive footing — not to take over the world.
