The Nielsen Company sponsors Steve Harvey Hoodie Awards

The global provider of media and consumer information and analytics will help celebrate the goodwill and good works of America’s most valuable community members during the Eighth Annual Steve Harvey Hoodie Awards 8/28 at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Harvey, of course, hosts the nationally-syndicated “Steve Harvey Morning Show” and is a best-selling author, actor and comedian as well.


As official sponsor of the Webcast for the awards presentation, Nielsen will provide a live simulcast of the Saturday night show during and after the ceremony at www.nielsen.com/african-americans. The Nielsen site also features eye-opening research pertaining to the 12 categories covered by the awards.

Ford is the title sponsor of the event. Other sponsors include: 5-Hour Energy, Hillshare Farm, Budget Car Rental, Wells Fargo, Hole Depot, State Farm, Prudential Insurance, Burger King, Outback Steakhouse, AT&T, Kodak and more.

As part of its ongoing community outreach efforts, Nielsen provided roundtrip airline tickets and hotel accommodations enabling 12 randomly selected individuals from neighborhoods around the country to attend the highly anticipated weekend-long event. The 12 trip recipients hail from Newark, NJ; Los Angeles; College Park, GA; St. Louis, MO; Nashville; Philadelphia; Lithonia, GA; Harvey, IL; Blythewood, SC: Compton, CA: East Orange, NJ; and Richmond, VA.

“Nielsen’s participation in The Hoodie Awards is a perfect complement to our efforts to engage and empower multicultural consumers. Not only do we get the chance to celebrate the accomplishments of community leaders and organizations from around the country, but our participation also provides us with the opportunity to raise the level of awareness about the purchasing power of the African-American consumer,” said Cheryl Pearson-McNeil, SVP/public affairs and government relations for The Nielsen Company, and a featured seminar presenter at the weekend-long event. “Each decision you make — which CD or DVD to buy, which movie to go see, which radio station to listen to or television program to watch — is a chance for you to be powerful!” says Pearson-McNeil. Her session, “Living Your Life Like It’s Golden: Do You Know Your True (Consumer) Power,” will be presented at 9 a.m., on Saturday, Aug. 28.

Recognizing 12 categories of outstanding leadership or service including — Best High School, Best High School Teacher, Best Church and Best Community Leader – The Hoodies were created by actor/comedian Steve Harvey, who says “I believe that we’re all created equal and it’s not fame or fortune that makes an ordinary person extraordinary, but it’s the things they do to help others and to uplift their communities that makes them special.” Stars joining Harvey for this year’s awards show will be Grammy Award winner rapper/actor Common, “The View” co-host Sherri Shepherd, nationally syndicated Fox Sports Radio host Stephen A. Smith; comedians David “Mr. Brown” Mann and George Wallace; actress/singer Tamela Mann; and actresses Loretta Devine, Holly Robinson Peete, Victoria Rowell, LisaRaye and Tasha Smith of “Why Did I Get Married Too?”
