Angie Harmon cast in new TNT pilot
Actress Angie Harmon, who played leading roles on “Law & Order” and “Women’s Murder Club,” is returning to solving crimes on TV as the title character in “Rizzoil,” a new TNT pilot based on Tess Gerritson’s popular Jane Rizzoli mystery novels.
The pilot, which comes to TNT from Warner Horizon Television, is being written by Janet Tamaro, of “Bones” and “Lost” fame, and executive-produced by Tamaro and Bill Haber’s Ostar Productions. Michael M. Robin will direct and executive-produce the pilot.
“Angie Harmon is not only a terrific actress, but also a favorite of crime drama fans,” said Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “She will bring a combination of toughness and sensitivity to the challenging lead role. We’re thrilled to have Angie on board for what could be an outstanding addition to TNT’s collection of strong female characters,” he added.
Harmon earned four consecutive Screen Actors Guild Award nominations as part of the ensemble cast of Law & Order, in which she played assistant district attorney Abbie Carmichael. Harmon also portrayed Detective Lindsay Boxer in Women’s Murder Club.
Tess Gerritson has written seven books featuring Jane Rizzoli, a Boston detective. Rizzoli works closely on her cases with medical examiner Maura Isles, who will also be a part of the series. Additional casting will be announced soon.
