KATV-TV (ABC) Little Rock reports that jurors decided on a sentence of life in prison without parole for Curtis Vance. The jury’s other option had been the death penalty for Vance, age 29, who was convicted of the murder of KATV anchor Anne Pressly.

According to the report by KATV’s David Goins, jurors heard nearly a full day of defense testimony on Thursday urging them to spare Vance’s life. His girlfriend, who has three children with Vance, broke down on the stand as she said, “You’re not killing him, you’re killing me.”

Vance’s younger brother testified that their mother was abusive, beating both of her sons.

Pressly, who was 26, died October 25, 2008, five days after she was beaten and raped in her home. The young news anchor had been employed by the Allbritton station for four years.

What in the H*** is wrong with people who sit on a jury?! This guy raped and murdered this woman. He also raped another woman previously (do a web search to find out more). There was solid DNA evidence, and he gets life in prison??!! The guy's girlfriend said "You're not killing him, you're killing me" and this should garner sympathy? He apparently didn't love her or his kids or why else would he commit such a heinous crime? He deserved the death penalty and should have received it. And not only that, but a death caused by such a trauma such as the one he caused this innocent woman. I think that someone who receives the death penalty should get one year in prison (to think about what will come), then the death sentence carried out in a means appropriate to their crime. He raped, beat and stabbed this poor woman who lived for five days before her death caused by such a severe trauma. How in the world do jurors determine "life in prison" for such an action. I say a death by hanging in yard of the prison for all inmates to witness. Electrocution might be appropriate.
When our crime system ACTUALLY PUNISHES those who commit serious crimes, then maybe criminals will think twice. This guy KNOWS he has a chance to get out (escape, slip up in the trial.. something).. but a chance. Ms. Pressly has no chance. Her life is over due to him INTENTIONALLY killing her. THE LEGAL SYSTEM MUST PUNISH CRIMINALS!! Politicians.. elected officials… Are you listening???!!!
People reading this... talk with your friends. Most, not all, but most will agree that the punishment is no longer appropriate for the crimes. We MUST crack down on criminals with punishments that will deter criminals based on FEAR of the punishment. Not all people have a good heart and do the right thing based on morals. So at least a fear of a serious punishment based on a crime may help deter these animals.
Most (not all) people are sick and tired of allowing murderers to continue to live in prisons and be supported. And rapists… there IS a punishment which is appropriate for that crime.. and that punishment should be carried out for someone who has done this more crime more than once (as Vance had done!).
