Idol judge’s father eying NY Senate seat

Kara DioGuardi has strong familiarity with an entrant into the Republican contest to run against Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) for the US Senate seat previously abandoned by Hillary Clinton. Joe DioGuardi is the Fox “American Idol” star’s father. But he’s not running in the reflected glow of his daughter’s fame.

He has time served in Congress, so a run for the Senate is completely in keeping with his resume. He represented the Westchester/Yonkers NY area from 1985-1989 as a Republican in the US House of Representatives.

DioGuardi is also founder of watchdog Truth In Government. It’s website opens, “Welcome to Truth In Government, a non-profit organization dedicated to revealing what Congress has kept hidden for many decades: how much money it really spends and how much money all of us taxpayers really owe.”

According to New York Daily News, the celeb DioGuardi fully supports her father’s candidacy, although her schedule will prevent her from taking a particularly active roll in the campaign.

The candidate DioGuardi apparently is already tired of answering questions about his daughter, who he points out is not running. However, he has acknowledged that the notoriety may come in handy for fund-raising.
