Colbert exits presidential race

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
After announcing plans to run as both a Democrat and a Republican in the South Carolina primary, Comedy Central personality Stephen Colbert only attempted to get on the Democratic ballot, apparently due to pricing issues - the Democratic entry fee was much lower. However, his candidacy was rejected by the state Democratic leadership. Now, he has graciously decided to bow out of the campaign after losing by "the slimmest margin in presidential election history." That would be 10 votes (of course, it was out of 13 possible).

TVBR/RBR observation: We think there may have been another reason for Colbert's departure. Most political speechwriters no doubt reported for work today and will likely do so again tomorrow. Colbert's writers, on the other hand, are on strike.
