Breaking: Discovery hostage taker shot
Police have shot the man who took three hostages Wednesday at about 1:00 pm ET at Discovery Communications headquarters in Silver Spring, MD. Montgomery County Police Chief Tom Manger says the explosive device appeared to go off, but none of the hostages were injured. Manger said the suspect was taken into custody, but then refused to comment on his condition or even to state whether he is dead of alive. Police fired at the man at 4:58 pm because they believed the hostages were in danger.
Police are now examining suspicious packages which may or may not contain other explosive devices, so the building remains closed.
UPDATE: Police now state that the suspect is dead.
