Washington tossed from "Grey's Anatomy"

ABC Television Studios has declined to pick up the contract renewal option for Isaiah Washington, five months after he called another member of the "Grey's Anatomy" cast a "faggot" - which he first denied, then admitted. That apparently wasn't the only case of friction between Washington and others on the set.

And despite the phenomenal success of the series, the fact that it is an ensemble cast makes it relatively easy for ABC to let a character go and bring in another. "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore," Washington said in a statement released through his publicist. Just what he intended to express by quoting the line used by Peter Finch's character, Howard Beale, in the 1976 movie "Network" was not clear.
