Fox set to win season in 18-49, CBS in viewers
"American Idol" wraps up its season tonight, but the ratings monster has already done its work for Fox. With the 2006-2007 television season finishing this week, Idol has powered Fox to another come from behind win in the big money 18-49 demo.
CBS is celebrating, though, because it moved into second place 18-49, displacing ABC, and has extended its winning streak for overall viewership to five straight years. Despite some individual show successes this season, NBC still ended up in 4th place in total viewership and every major demo.
TVBR observation: What should be distressing is that almost everyone posted audience declines. Fox was up 4% in total viewership, while NBC and ABC were each down 9%. CBS still had the most viewers, but 1% less than a year ago.
