"Crystal Darkness" to be roadblocked in Sacramento
The methamphetamine crisis is gripping Sacramento and the whole region, So six TV stations in that market will roadblock the "Crystal Darkness" documentary at 6:30pm on Wednesday. When is last time that happened in a top 20 market?
The 30-minute documentary filmed in Northern California tells powerful stories of young people who have gone through the dark and lonely depths of Meth addiction. The program features heart-wrenching stories from victims of Meth addiction told with raw honesty about their personal tragedy.
Professional drug counselors will be on hand to staff a call-in center and answer calls from the community following the program.
Says Bruno Cohen, President & General Manager CBS13/CW31 KOVR/KMAX Sacramento: "There's no question about the severity of the meth problem here. I'm proud of CBS -- and all the station owners in Sacramento -- for stepping up and giving "Crystal Darkness" such a high profile platform. This program will make a difference."
The Sacramento Bee reports Sacramento will be the fifth television market to air the PSA. Originally produced for Reno TV stations in January 2007, the program proved so popular that other communities sought localized versions of the documentary. In May in Las Vegas, 50% of the households tuned in to the documentary, according to the story. In August, 25 stations in five Oregon cities broadcast the documentary, and newspaper reports say the toll-free number was flooded with calls. In December, San Diego stations aired it.
