Knoxville DTV sold

WMAK-DT is headed to Marcus Lamb’s Word of God Fellowship, taking the Channel 7 digital operation into the non-commercial side of the business. According to brokerage Kalil & Co., the price is an even $2M cash.

The buyer is owner and operator on Daystar Television Network, which operates 83 televisions in 56 markets. It will plunk down $100K into an escrow account to seal the deal with the seller, headed by John D. Engelbrect and related to his South Central Communications.

WMAK was a DTV pioneer. In fact, it has never broadcast in analog. It signed on 7/31/04 with a digital signal. It’s been operating as an independent, as well as showing material from the Retro Television Network. The buyer, of course, is a sure bet to replace existing programming with its own material.
