Orlando Class A act revisited

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
We have to admit we were wondering about the pricing of WZXZ-CA, an Orlando Class A television station that is being sold buy Rich Ehrman’s L4 Media Group to CaribVision, a group with full power television stations in Puerto Rico and LPTV outposts in Miami and near New York City. CaribeVision’s Carlos Barba is getting the station for $1.8M. That might sound high for a low power facility, but if FCC Chairman Kevin Martin is able to push through a provision granting cable must-carry status to Class As, then its value may head northward. According to brokers at Kalil & Co., who represented Ehrman, the deal was in the works before Martin made his intentions public, and Ehrman decided to do ahead with the deal that was already in motion. Do you believe the NAB's position that negotiating performance royalties today will prevent a worse outcome for radio down the road?
