Monday Morning Shakers & Makers

Deals: 7/5/04-7/9/04

You have to go back six weeks to find a higher trading volume than this week's TV-fueled total, which approached but did not reach the 80M dollar mark. If not for the value of the TV stations, which was there despite their small-market status, this would've been another totally humdrum week. All but one of the filings was for a lone station (although one included an LMA), and the only multiple-station sale was an threesome in an unrated market for only 100K cash.

TV Deal of the Week
Taking the long view on Longview
The relationship between buyer Comcorp. and seller Sinclair, in regards to KETK-TV Jacksonville TX, goes all the way back to 1999, and another part of the deal goes back even further. The deal for this NBC affiliate includes an LMA of another NBC station in Nacogdoches which Sinclair set up in 1996. The market is far-flung Tyler-Longview. At $36M, it's the TV Deal of the Week.

Radio Deal of the Week
Millenium adds to its Garden State crop
WOJZ-FM Atlantic City is going from Nassau to Millennium, adding to a cluster which itself overlaps other Millenium clusters in the crowded state of New Jersey. This Egg Harbor City station is going for $14M, accounting for the lion's share of radio trading value and earning Radio Deal of the Week honors.
