DeWitt comments on SNTA suit
Not long after we reported that Gene DeWitt has sued the Syndicated Network Television Association (SNTA) for $1.25M over non-payment of his contract (12/1 TVBR Daily Epaper #233), we contacted him for comment. Last summer he was fired for what SNTA called insubordination. His three year contract was reportedly worth $500K a year plus bonuses.
Says DeWitt: "I've been told that SNTA has no case-that there are no grounds for what they did. They don't want to go to court to deal with that. It's going to take a while. But so what-they wrote the contract and media sellers of all people should honor their contracts. But to get into a he-said, she-said public debate is unproductive at this point."
Looks like he's in for the long haul. After selling Optimedia to Zenith three years ago, he's got the money, the attorney and the time. DeWitt had told TVBR (8/5 TVBR Daily Epaper #152) not long ago that he felt a bit used, helping to bring syndication's numbers up, providing "10 years worth of ideas" and then being put under the threat of being let go.
