Piracy: The new ratings yardstick?
BayTSP has a new way of showing what shows are hot, as well as providing evidence to support the need program producers have to find some way to protect their copyrighted material from unfair duplication. It's a list of the top 10 pirated television programs. BayTSP explains, "The Top 10 list of TV shows is based on the number of unique files available for download on the FastTrack, eDonkey and BitTorrent networks. The list is not based on the number of downloads and would not count someone who downloaded a TV episode and immediately removed it from his or her shared folder, or, in the case of the BitTorrent protocol, immediately deleted the torrent file and did not remain online to seed it. If the number one show on the list below has you scratching your head, that's because it's from Great Britain. The results are for December 2005.
