“Ugly Betty” gets the axe

Once a cutting edge television hit for ABC, “Ugly Betty” has fallen on hard times and low ratings. To no one’s surprise, the Alphabet Net is putting it out of its misery.

Ugly Betty will finish production of its remaining episodes for this season, with eight more yet to air. That will allow the series to wrap up its plot lines and say goodbye. It will not return for the next season.

“We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion,” said Steve McPherson, President, ABC Entertainment Group.

Based on an internationally successful Colombian telenovela, Ugly Betty stars America Ferrera as a young woman working at a New York fashion magazine, despite being a walking fashion disaster.

Ugly Betty is produced by Silent H, Ventanarosa and Reveille in partnership with ABC Studios. The executive producers are Salma Hayek, Silvio Horta, Ben Silverman, Jose Tamez and Joel Fields.
