Univision 33 and TeleFutura 35 shake up Phoenix TV

Spanish-language TV stations shake up Phoenix’s TV Ranking in the May 2010 Sweep. Univision 33 and TeleFutura 35 Claim #1 and #2 Rankings in Phoenix Among Coveted Adult 18-34 Demographic.


During the May 2010 Sweep, KTVW Univision 33 ranked #1 and KFPH TeleFutura 35 ranked #2 in Total Week (Monday to Sunday 6 am to 2 am) among Adults 18-34, edging out KSAZ FOX 10, KNXV ABC 15, KPNX NBC 12, KTVK 3, KPHO CBS 5, KASW CW 61 and KUTP My Network 45, regardless of language, English or Spanish.

Results from the Nielsen Station Index (NSI) confirm KTVW Univision 33’s leadership position in various dayparts among key demographic groups, including Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49, Adults 25-54, Persons 2+ and Persons 2-17.  Univision 33 is the only TV station in the Phoenix market that can claim #1 status for the past 26 consecutive measurement periods among Adults 18-34 and Persons 2-17.  Right on Univision heals is KFPH TeleFutura 35, ranking as the #2 television station in Phoenix among Adults 18-34 and Person 2-17 for the past three NSI Sweeps.

Overall Highlights

KTVW Univision 33 is the most watched television station in Phoenix in Total Day (Monday to Sunday 6:00 am to 2:00 am) among Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49 and Persons 2-17. 

KFPH TeleFutura 35 doubled its Adult 18-34 viewership (May ’10 vs. May ’09 Sweep) and now ranks #2 among all television stations in Phoenix among Persons 2-17 and Adults 18-34.

Primetime Highlights

Among the Valley’s major broadcasters, KTVW Univision 33 was one of the top three most watched stations 23 of the 28 nights among Persons 2-17, 25 of the 28 nights among Adults 18-34, 22 of the 28 nights among Adults 18-49 and 17 of the 28 nights among Adults 25-54.

KFPH TeleFutura 35 was one of the top three most watched stations 14 of the 28 nights among Persons 2-17, 9 of the 28 nights among Adults 18-34 and 6 of the 28 nights among Adults 18-49.

The commercial free special “Inmigración: Un Debate Nacional” (Immigration: A National Debate) aired on Friday, May 14th from 9pm to 10pm and delivered Univision’s largest audience year-to-date in the Friday night time period among Total Persons 2+.  Additionally, the town-hall event was the most watched program that day among Total Persons 2+, Adults 18-49, and Adults 25-54, topping FOX’s “Kitchen Nightmares,” NBC’s “Dateline,” CBS’s “Medium” and ABC’s “20/20.”

54,000 Adult 18-34 viewers watched the finale of “Vecinos” (Neighbors) on KFPH TeleFutura 35 on Monday, May 3rd, making this novela the highest rated program on a Monday in the May Sweep among all Adults 18-34, regardless of language.  The “Vecinos” finale drew more Adult 18-34 viewers than FOX’s “House” (44,000), CBS’s “Big Bang Theory” (40,000), ABC’s “The Bachelorette” (30,000), CBS’s “How I Met Your Mother” (30,000), CBS’s “Two and a Half Men” (29,000) and FOX’s “24” (28,000).

“Hasta que el Dinero nos Separe” (For Love or Money), KTVW Univision 33’s 7pm novela, was the most watched program among Adults 18-34 on Friday nights, regardless of language.  The novela averaged 42,000 Adult 18-34 viewers and out delivered My Network TV’s “WWE Smackdown” (19,000), FOX’s “Kitchen Nightmares” (16,000), NBC’s “Who Do You Think You Are” (15,000) and CW’s “Smallville” (12,000).

Local News Highlights

KTVW’s “Noticias 33” (News 33) at 5:00 pm is the most watched newscast in the Valley. “Noticias 33” not only ranked #1 among Adults 25-54, Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34, it also had more Adult 18-34 viewers tuning in than the combined audiences of every English-language local news program at 5:00 pm.

Again at 10:00 pm, “Noticias 33” out ranked the competing local news programs with +145% rating lead over #2 ranked KPNX’s “12 News at 10” among Adults 18-34, +60% ratings lead among Adults 18-49, and +32% ratings lead among Adults 25-54.
