Univision to host forums with presidential candidates

UnivisionHispanic multimedia giant Univision was one of the entities dismayed by the lack of a minority presence among presidential debate moderators. But it’s doing more than just complain.

It has managed to get both Barack Obama and Mitt Romney to commit to “meet the candidate” forums to be broadcast over the vast array of stations and networks at the company’s beck and call.

Facebook will also participate in the events, which will be hosted live by Univision’s Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas.

The events, which will be held before a live audience, have not yet made it on to the calendar.
The arrangements make good on a promise Univision CEO Randy Falco made to the Commission on Presidential Debates. While voicing his disappointment on the lack of any Latino journalists on the debate schedule, he offered his company’s resources to bring the candidates before the Hispanic community. That offer is now well on its way to being a done deal.
