Week 6: DVR playback 'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Modern Family' registered Top 2

DVR Playback for the week of 10/25/10 (Week #6): For the 6th time in as many weeks this season, ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Modern Family” registered as TV’s Top 2 gainers from the first-reported numbers to the DVR finals among Adults 18-49.  “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Modern Family” each tacked on an additional 1.4 rating points, surging by  +36% and +27%, respectively, from the Live + Same Day to the Live + 7 Day Adult 18-49 averages. 


With both ABC series adding on over 3 million more viewers to their initial tallies, “Modern  Family” and “Grey’s Anatomy” also qualified as TV’s largest gainers overall, as ABC topped the Total Viewer’s list over CBS for the 2nd week in a row.   In fact with “Modern Family,” “Grey’s” and “Castle,” ABC once again broadcasted 3 of the Top 6 shows with the biggest Total Viewer increases from the L+SD averages to the L+7 averages:    “Modern  Family” – #1 (+3.1 million = 13.2 million to 16.3 million), “Grey’s Anatomy” – #2 (+3.0 million = 10.8 million to 13.8 million) and “Castle” – #6 (+2.3 million = 11.3 million to 13.6 million).

A total of 5 ABC series built by over 2.0 million viewers on average from their first-reported numbers to the final DVR playback stats, including  “Modern Family” (+3.1 million), “Grey’s Anatomy” (+3.0 million), “Castle” (+2.3 million), “Desperate Housewives” (+2.2 million), “Private Practice” (+2.1 million).

Among Adults 18-49, 7 of ABC’s scripted series generated substantial ratings increases of 7-tenths of rating point or more:   “Grey’s Anatomy” (+1.4 rating), “Modern Family” (+1.4 rating), “Desperate Housewives” (+1.1 rating), “Private Practice” (+1.0 rating), “Castle” (+0.7 rating), “Cougar Town” (+0.7 rating) and “Brothers & Sisters” (+0.7 rating).
