The man behind the iHeart Gamco suit, Mario Joseph Gabelli, is a stock investor, investment advisor, and financial analyst. He is the founder, chairman, and CEO of Gabelli Asset Management Company Investors, an investment firm headquartered in Rye, New York.
He founded the firm in 1977.
Forbes describes Gabelli as “a life-long contrarian, a trait evident even as a schoolboy when he refused to hide with classmates during air raid drills.”
The 74-year-old is a self-made millionaire, buying his first stocks at 13 and worth approximately $1.53 billion now, according to Forbes.
Gamco has other media interests as well. Mario Gabelli’s fund holds the second-highest voting stake in Viacom after Sumner Redstone.
In December Gabelli questioned whether Redstone was mentally alert enough to remain executive chairman.
