Why Lack of Candor May Doom WOOK

FCCIt appears lack of candor may lead to WOOK(LP), Washington, DC not making it to air.

Washingtonian reports the FCC has revoked the station’s permit.

WOOK’s call letters had originally belonged to a former soul-formatted station in the district.

William Tucker had a permit to begin broadcasting; Radio One had originally protested the allocation and alleged the name of a convicted felon was left off the application submitted to the FCC.

Tucker then teamed up with non-profit Sincere Seven, which filed the application, and then Tucker would operate the station, according to the Washingtonian. But the deal makes Sincere Seven a “front” for Tucker, in violation of FCC rules.

That’s why the agency revoked WOOK’s permit May 10.

Sincere Seven plans to appeal, according to the account.
