World Series sets a record…

…but not one that Fox can get excited about. The rain-delayed, five-game event that saw the Philadelphia Phillies defeat the Tampa Bay Rays produced the lowest TV ratings ever for a World Series. At least the final game was a ratings winner in Philadelphia.

Game Five, Part Two, on Wednesday – the final innings of the rain-delayed game that began on Monday – drew the best ratings of the Series – a 12 rating and 18 share. That took the Nielsen ratings average for the Series to 8.4, the first single-digit rating for a World Series. The previous low had been 10.1 in 2006.

Fox O&O WTXF-TV Philadelphia had something to cheer about as the hometown team triumphed. The Wednesday night finale drew a 55 rating and 73 share in the City of Brotherly Love.
