101.9 RXP (WRXP) “The New York Rock Experience” gave one lucky listener the chance to say “I’m in the Band” and be the lead singer for 311 this past Saturday (6/27) at PNC Band Arts Center. 101.9 RXP provided listeners the opportunity to upload audio and/or video of themselves singing 311’s latest single Hey You to 1019rxp.com.  The winner would be able to say “I’m in the Band” and replace 311’s lead singer, Nick Hexum, on-stage during the song’s sound check as the rest of the band plays backup!

Contestants were narrowed down to 5 finalists who sang live on 101.9 RXP’s Rock Show during the morning of Thursday, June 25th, in front of a panel of judges that included RXP hosts Matt Pinfield and Leslie Fram; Rhett Miller (lead singer of Old 97’s); Doug Broad (editor of Spin Magazine); Jessie Maldonado (Jive Records) and Ron Poore (Atlantic Records).

“The band thought that this was the greatest promotion they’ve ever done and so do we!” says The Rock Show’s co-host and RXP PD, Leslie Fram.  “Nick Hexum even said Rhett Miller was actually texting him during the contest, writing ‘I am judging for your replacement this morning!”

In the end, Meg Algeo of Millstone Township, NJ was chosen as the winner of 101.9 RXP’s “I’m in the Band”.  To watch her live performance, listen to audio and view photos from Saturday’s event, visit 1019rxp.com.
