On Friday, 10/9, Hearst Television’s KCRA-TV Sacramento will kick off the 22nd annual KCRA 3 Kids Can Food Drive. KCRA 3 News anchors, reporters and volunteers will be at Cal Expo to take non-perishable food donations from 4:30 AM to 7 PM.

KCRA 3 News anchors, reporters and volunteers will be at Cal Expo to take non-perishable food donations from 4:30 AM to 7 PM. This is a great way for the viewers to come together to help those in our community who need it the most.

“We feel it is our responsibility to recognize and address the needs of the community,“ said KCRA 3 General Manager Elliott Troshinsky.  We are very grateful for all the support and growth in participation from schools, students, parents, and businesses. It is a community wide effort that has had a positive impact for many years.”

KCRA 3 will continue the drive with a contest between participating schools throughout the area. Starting October 12th, 2009 through November 20th, 2009, these participating schools will compete to collect the most food to help feed the hungry in our area. During that time, KCRA 3 viewers may donate to any of those schools listed on www.kcra.com/kidscan. The top schools will be announced in December 2009.

The KCRA 3 Kids Can Food Drive has been a main provider of food donations for local food banks since 1987. It is the largest donation they receive all year and allows the food banks shelves to be stocked for as long as six months. There are more than 40 food banks in the Sacramento area that will benefit from this drive.
