The call for entries to the 2009 Radio Mercury Awards (RMA) began yesterday in a competition for a total of $140,000 in cash prizes, to be awarded on June 17th in New York City. One outstanding commercial will break through to win the $100,000 Grand Prize.

"Real innovation requires risk-taking and a willingness to embrace new ideas," stated Rick Boyko, Director of the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Brandcenter and former co-president and chief creative officer of Ogilvy & Mather, North America who will serve as Chief Judge for the 2009 Radio Mercury Awards. "Smart creative that forces us to look at the medium in a different way is the key. We’re looking for the spots that showcase where radio is headed."

In addition to Rick Boyko, the final round judges to date include Alex Bogusky of Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Bill Bruce of BBDO New York, Pete Favat of Arnold Worldwide, David Fowler of Ogilvy & Mather, Jeff Goodby of Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, Mark Gross of DDB Chicago, Mark Nardi of Hill | Holliday, Bob Scarpelli of DDB Worldwide, and Joyce King Thomas of McCann Erickson.
