A fifth straight monthly rise in the manufacturing index of The Institute for Supply Management was good news for Wall Street and sent stocks higher on the first trading day of the New Year. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 156 points, or 1.5%, to 10,584. Broadcasting stocks participated in the rally.
The RBR Radio Index was up 11.720, or 5.6%, to 219.924.
The TVBR Television Index was up 5.575, or 4.2%, to 139.655.
Note: With the beginning of the New Year, Westwood One has rejoined the RBR Radio Index as a component stock. We will be reviewing the status of the two component stocks which continue to trade for less than $1. The one component of the TVBR Television Index which trades below $1 is also under review.
