Discovery en Español is trumpeting its growth in the past calendar year. It is still the #2 Hispanic cable network, but it proudly notes that it tied the long-time #1, Univision’s Galavision, on one night of the week for 2011 overall.
The Spanish network of Discovery Communications ranked #1 for Sunday nights tied with Galavision (7-11 pm) with strong audience draws from originals such as Apocalipsis Maya and Los Hipopótamos del Capo and the viewer favorite, Discovery Presenta, which featured some blue chip content including Steve Jobs: iGenius and Bin Laden: Hombre Muerto.
“The network’s performance in 2011, 31% ahead of our nearest competitor among Hispanic persons 18-49 and 36% among the coveted 18-49 males, clearly demonstrates our ability to not only attract but retain viewers in a fiercely competitive environment. Having increased investment in original content and five years in the marketplace has made Discovery en Español a destination for audiences of all ages,” said Ivan Bargueiras, General Manager, Discovery U.S. Hispanic.
