90-minute 'American Idol' what else, winner Wednesday

Last night, the AMERICAN IDOL Top 7 Performance show and week 3 of new comedy BREAKING IN gave FOX the nightly win across all key demos. FOX beat its nearest competitor last night by +164% in Adults 18-49 (5.8 vs. 2.2 for ABC/CBS) and +107% in Total Viewers (18.2 vs. CBS’ 8.8 Mil.)

IDOL was the highest rated program of the night in all key demos, outperforming the next highest rated program by +84% in Adults 18-49 and +108% in Total Viewers
Last night’s AMERICAN IDOL retained 99% of the comparable telecast last year (Top 7 on 4/20/10) among Adults 18-49 and gained +11% in Total Viewers

In the 8-9:30p time period AMERICAN IDOL dominated the combined 4-net average by +8% in Adults 18-49 and +3% in Total Viewers (21.8 vs. 21.1 Mil.) and outperformed its nearest competitor by +172% in Adults 18-49 and +127% in Total Viewers

***So far this season with Comparable Most Current ratings AMERICAN IDOL retains 93% A18-49 (8.5/23 vs. 9.1/23) and is up +1% in Total Viewers (25.0 vs. 24.8 Mil.) versus the same telecasts last season.***

BREAKING IN:  2.5/7, down one tenth (-4%) from last week BREAKING IN won the 9:30p half hour among Adults 18-49 and Teens and outperformed the return of ABC’s Cougar Town by +4% in Adults 18-49 and +19% in Total Viewers

Competition

On ABC, The Middle (1.8/6) was flat and matched its lowest original rating of the season, while Better With You (1.6/4) was in line with its recent performance. At 9p, Modern Family (3.7/10) dropped -5% and delivered its lowest regular original rating this season, down -20% from its prior average (4.6/12). Cougar Town (2.4/6) returned to its regular time period down -11% from its last original on 2/02/11. Back-to-back episodes of new comedy Happy Endings aired at 10p (1.8/5, down -22% vs. last week’s 10p performance) and 10:30p (1.6/4).

CBS’s Survivor: Redemption Island (3.0/9) declined -3% and delivered its lowest original telecast ever (excluding clip shows and Thanksgiving). Survivor remains off to its weakest start ever (3.1/9), down -16% from its previous lowest installment through this point in the season (3.7/11 for both Survivor: Samoa and Survivor: Nicaragua).  Repeats of Criminal Minds (1.9/5) and Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior (1.7/4) finished the night.

NBC aired an original Minute to Win It (0.8/2, down -11%) that hit a series low, followed by repeats of Minute to Win It at 9p (0.8/2) and Law & Order: SVU at 10p (1.4/4).
