Legendary Twin Cities morning man Tom Barnard announced 3/29  that he’s putting himself in treatment. The Cumulus Media Classic Rock host told his listeners that a routine that included drinking wine and pills to help him sleep played a part in his decision. Barnard also spoke of anger issues that were affecting his life, reported KARE-TV.

“I don’t want to be pissed off… I just don’t want to be angry anymore,” Barnard told listeners.

As of Friday morning Barnard said he would try treatment on an out-patient basis for a week, and if that didn’t work he would consider an in-patient program that would require a leave of absence.

Co-host Terri Traen commented that the phones at KQRS were going nuts, with friends and fans wanting to talk to Barnard and support him. Morning crew member and Minnesota-born comedian Dave Mordal spoke of his 25 years of sobriety, and told Barnard that life will continue.

“You’re not dropping the ball,” Mordal said when Barnard spoke of leaving his morning crew in the lurch. “You’re just letting one of us hold onto it until you come back.”

“It’s kind of like this big weight is being lifted off my shoulders,” Barnard told listeners regarding his decision to seek help.
