In August 2015, some 88 bidders participating in the FCC’s Auction 98 were vying for 131 construction permits. The biggest bid was for a Construction Permit in Westfield, N.Y., snagged by The ERIE Radio Company.
Seven years and four months later, that licensee not only saw its long-form application for the permit dismissed but is now in receipt of a formal Order of Payment from the FCC. The Commission is demanding the downpayment for the CP it won, but never built.
And, the demand is for over a half-million dollars. Yet, a refund is now in the works in a complicated matter involving two auctions and prepayments.
