A Minnesota AM Moves To Nevada

Has a dark AM station in Shakopee, Minn., on the outskirts of Minneapolis, packed up and relocated some 1,800 miles to the Biggest Little City on Earth?

Not exactly. But, it is indeed heading to Nevada.

That’s because Nevada Radio LLC, a 50/50 partnership between Carson City, Nev.-based Fred Weinberg and Anthem, Ariz.-based Floyd Brown incorporated in Arizona by Brown, is acquiring KQSP-AM 1530 from Broadcast One Inc. of Minneapolis.

Broadcast One is headed by Yong Kim and its KQSP has been dark since January. Prior to that, it was airing a Spanish-language format as “La Picosa.”

KQSP has turned off the lights in the studio once before: Before signing on “La Picosa” in February 2013, the station went dark after a tenure as an Urban Oldies station. That followed a run with another Spanish-language format, installed when Kim acquired KQSP in June 2006.

Nevada Radio is paying $200,000 for KQSP.
