As many radio industry observers know, having an FM translator from a tower on Red Mountain can bring an operator considerable coverage of the Birmingham metropolitan area.
As such, even a low-power facility with a tower here has considerable value. That seems to be the case for Maria Rivera.
Her Rivera Communications is agreeing to purchase W252BE at 98.3 MHz in Birmingham from Shelby Broadcast Associates.
The purchase price is $184,000. A $20,000 initial deposit was made, followed by a series of installment payments dating to the original date of the Asset Purchase Agreement of May 2, 2019.
All payment installments have been completed, hence the submission of the APA with the FCC on June 9, 2020.
What’s in store for W252BE? There’ll be no change, and will continue to be used to rebroadcast “La Jefa,” a regional Mexican AM based at WAYE-AM 1220, a Class D with 1kw day/75 watts.
