A Podcast Parade Stomps Atop Radio’s Spot Ten

The latest Spot Ten Radio report from Media Monitors is out, and the top three slots reflect ads for iHeartMedia-distributed podcasts — likely reflecting their placement on company owned stations.


While RBR+TVBR normally discounts this activity, as it does not represent a full transactional ad placement, the activity is noteworthy for its play counts, as three podcast campaigns outpaced Progressive, Lowe’s, GEICO and new entrant eBay for the week ending June 21.

It also provides insight into who may be cutting back on radio — namely GEICO, which is absent on the Spot Ten altogether.

That’s a rarity, and it will be interesting to see if it is an anomaly or the start of a trend.
